DION TAKES THE CUP ON A HEAVY TRACK - 1ST EDITION

The 'Cup' was run on a heavy track this year, the weather seemed more like the 'build up' than the dry, the water was still high, and whilst some runners found the track very heavy going others, like Dion and Peter Cooke favoured the heavy work and took it in their stride. Dion took out the 'Cup' and Peter got the 'Saucer' (maybe we should call it a plate?), and there was a group of runners bunched very close behind.

Peter was having a wonderful time because he didn't have to fight for the front of the boat,  He went out with Briggsy on the second day and did even better, Briggsy reckons he is a great guide now.

Peter got a first with Barra and his running partner, Dudley, sorry meant Richard had to pull out after he failed a swab test.(Bali belly??)

Water was still high, but there were still a lot of boats out there.   Some boats did well and lined out, while others struggled.  Of course that had nothing to do with the big afternoon around the O'Reilly's camp and then the follow on in the bar. Think the SP team kept them going until 2am!

There were some great fishing stories, like Peter's barra, young Hayden landed his first barra and toga on fly.  Di Hagley had a ball and came in the top placings.  Ross Marriner came out of retirement and came in the top places too.

 It was good to see all the old faces from the good old days in the club, Cameron and Bill Briscoe (Yes Bill was there advising Cameron) , Lyle and Marisa O'Reilly, Dottie and Graeme Williams,  and Ross Marriner.

Whilst the fishing may have been the main reason that we were out there, I'm told the highlight of the weekend was the a la carte meal, and the fact that Lynda and Pete have put in a bottle shop and it had 'Shaw and Smith' sauvignon blanc.   None left now, but ordering more.

UPDATE FROM DION " On behalf of all the field of stayers on the heavy Corroboree track, I wish to say a heart felt thank you to Cathy and Rog for their efforts and flies leading up to and including the running of the Cup. Same applies to the mastery of the scoring system, expertly executed by Jim. I have to say that because I won, but the drug screen is still pending, so Peter you may be in for a surprise!! 
Once I have the photos done, I'll chuck something up on the blog too and will reveal my secret weapon so everyone can have the same fun catching fish that I did. Jim, I'd be really keen for a run down on the numbers of fish landed, including the biggest of each species if you still have that info. If not, no dramas. Great weekend folks, can't wait for the Stakes!!
